A: Proper alignment affects the whole body. It can boost your immune system, improve your sleep quality, alleviate migraines, and for athletes it is literally a competitive edge.
A: Most people come to our office after they have pain, which is a reactive form of medicine. Our goal is to move our patients to a wellness care plan, which is preventative. At that point, we've gotten them out of pain, and we've stabilized their spine. We emphasize the importance of why continued care is necessary so that our patients don't get back to where they were.
A: Subluxation, which is a small misalignment of the bone. When there is misalignment, the tissue that surrounds the nerve swells and compresses the nerve causing nerve dysfunction and pain.
A: The Activator Method has been around for almost 60 years, and it’s the second-most researched method in the field of chiropractic treatment. This method is safe for almost anyone because it doesn’t involve the big twist, crack, pop of manual adjustment. Instead, we use an instrument called an activator, which shoots a mechanical impulse through the tissue layers to gently re-align your bone.
A: Yes. The Activator Method is safe for both. In fact, there is a chiropractic method that is specifically designed to help prevent breech births. During my wife’s pregnancy, we used this method to help my son flip from breech to head first and avoided the need for a C-section.
A: The hands-on nature of the chiropractic treatment is essentially what requires patients to visit the chiropractor a number of times. To be treated by a chiropractor, a patient needs to be in his or her office. In contrast, a course of treatment from medical doctors often involves a pre-established plan that is conducted at home (i.e. taking a course of antibiotics once a day for a couple of weeks). A chiropractor may provide acute, chronic, and/or preventive care thus making a certain number of visits sometimes necessary. Your doctor of chiropractic should tell you the extent of treatment recommended and how long you can expect it to last.
It’s our goal to help patients weed out the truth from the misconceptions that often plague chiropractic care. Unfortunately, if a myth is widespread, it can be accepted as fact, even with little truth to back it up.
Fact: In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, we recommend having regular adjustments. However, we do not put pressure on our patients to return, and the choice to continue is completely their own.
Fact: An OSHA study estimates that a child may experience up to 1,500 traumas to the spine before their fifth birthday. If a child regularly sees a chiropractor, the adverse effects of these traumas may be minimized or corrected.
Fact: While in school, future chiropractors receive 4,485 hours of college classroom instruction while medical students receive around 4,248 hours.
Fact: The sound is actually CO2 gas from inside the spine being released. When this occurs, a popping noise can be heard during an adjustment. AFC Physical Medicine & Chiropractic Care Centers now offers a noise-free treatment option..
